Fit Radio DJ Spotlight: DJ Spryte

By Maire,

This week we had a chance to sit down wth Fit Radio DJ, DJ Spryte. This is what he had to say:

Q: Who do you think should run for president in two years?

A: Daenerys Targaryen. (Yep I went there!)

Q: How many push up’s you can do?

A: In a row, I would say about 45. Then, I would fall over.

Q: Would you eat a bowl of crickets for $100,000?

A: Are we talking live crickets? Would some kind of seasoning salt be permitted? (Either way, I’d still most likely do it!)

Q: What are your top 3 gigs you have ever DJed?

A: This is a though one. Actually, I think Fit Radio has worked with them. I did a Night Nation Run Festival in Los Angles last year with 15,000 people. That would definitely be one of my favorite shows. The other 2 would have to be when I played in South Korea at Club Answer and I love Canada so I would say the shows I’ve done up in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Q: What did you think the 1st time you played the Fit Radio App?

A: Great App! People needed something like this. Especially for running, gym sessions, or even road trips.

Q: How does Fit Radio help people’s workouts?

A: Music has a tremendous effect on the way you feel. The right mix can motivate you to go the extra mile or keep pushing through your workout when you feel like quitting.

Q: What is the best feature on Fit Radio?

A: The Selection of mixes available. Plus having them all categorized really helps you navigate to exactly the style of music you’re looking for.

Q: How do you prepare a mix for Fit Radio?

A: I really like finding different and new styles of music and mixing them together with familiar elements of songs that are more recognizable to people. It’s a great way to introduce new music to the listener. When I start making the mix, I try to pair up vocals from hit records with newer, more abstract tracks. I think of a mix as a whole piece of music, as opposed to a collection of songs. So, it’s very common to always hear something going on, even in the spaces between tracks.

Recap: Night Nation Run Toronto with DJ Scuffs

By Maire,

Last week Fit Radio DJ, DJ Scuffs took the Fit Radio stage at Night Nation Run in Toronto – The World’s first-ever Running Music Festival.

We had a chance to catch up with DJ Scuffs after the event and here is what he had to say:

Q: What was the Night Nation Run event like?

A: It was a super dope event. So much energy from start to finish. Essentially, it’s a big music festival with a 5K race course going through it. There are multiple sounds and DJs playing all day and through the night with some DJs actually positioned on the course to help keep you pumped and moving all the way to the main stage.

Q: Fill in the blank: DJing at Night Nation Run Toronto was _______.

A: An amazing experience, a cool concept, and one of the best events I’ve ever played at and been a part of.

Q: When you create a Fit Radio mix, what do you always make sure to do?

A: I always make sure it’s a perfect combination of style, fun, energy, and it keeps you wanting more.

Getting To Know Your Favorite FIT Radio DJs: DJ HOHME

By superadmin,

Getting to know your favorite FIT Radio DJs…

FIT Radio flew DJ HOHME down to Atlanta back in July to spin at one of the Top 3 Nightclubs in the Country, Opera Nightclub. We had such a good time and enjoyed his set so much we just had to bring him back! He’ll be back in “The A” this weekend and we couldn’t be more pumped!  HOHME has great energy behind the decks, and he really knows how to make sure everyone on the dance floor is having a good time. Read our  interview we did with him; it’s sure to get you all pumped and excited to jam out to HOHME whether it be on the web or your app, or if you’re in town, at Opera Nightclub!

Back in July I received the opportunity to chat with HOHME and ask him a few questions. Here is what he had to say…

Where is your favorite place to spin?  Anywhere people go specifically to let go and dance.  I’d say my recent favorites have to be my sets at Burning Man back in early September, a private beach party in Rincon, Puerto Rico in October as well as my set at Opera Nightclub in Atlanta back in July.

Where are you from?  Originally, I’m from Southern Oregon, but I went to school and lived in LA for nearly 7 years.  Also, I lived in Beijing for about 6 months.

Where do you live now? I’m currently based in NYC, specifically the East Village.

How did you come up with the idea for your iPad DJ MixBoard App?  I was looking for a way to make my DJ efforts as mobile as possible, and having to bring/rely on turntables/cdjs at every event was not something I wanted to do…so I took all the main features I use the turntable for and designed them into the interface of the app.  Now I can control basically everything I ever did with a turntable wirelessly on my iPad.

What was the hardest part about launching the iPad app?  The hard part was designing it in a way that included everything i needed (gain, effects, loops, cues, pitch control). Other than that, considering it’s based on open-source framework off an existing app, I didn’t really have to worry about launching it at all (which is why I ended up giving it out for free download).

Where is your favorite place in the world?  Oh man, that’s hard to answer… If I had to give just one, I’d say Katmandu, Nepal. I spent a little over a month backpacking through Nepal and India back in 2008. Describing the first time I saw the himalayas in person as breathtaking wouldn’t do it justice whatsoever.  It was straight up moving.  Not to mention, nepal is probably the furthest I’ve been from western culture, which was refreshing.

Where does your fashion inspiration come from?  I’ve always liked fashion, but never considered myself fashionable really.  I’d say my inspiration comes from close friends; a lot of my friends have serious style and mine, I’d say, is just a runoff from what I liked that they were wearing here and there. Currently I love basic, non-branded clothing with minimal but tactful details.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?  …depends what your definition of crazy is.  Most recently, I’d say Burning Man takes the ticket.  There’s no way to fully describe what it’s like on the playa, but it was the best/craziest week of my life…  just an insane time.

What is your favorite thing about being a DJ?  I get to play the music I love for a living.

What is your favorite track at this moment in time?  I’m working on a bootleg of Morgan Page’s “Fight For You” right now with a producer partner of mine named Odmark, out of DC.  It’s sounding awesome!

What type of equipment do you use?  Macbook running Serato, Rane TTM 57sl mixer, and iPad…producing on Logic Pro

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?  Happy, blessed, positive

What is something no one knows about you?  I was a double major in business & dance in college.  I’ve danced my whole life.

What do you do when you aren’t spinning? Listen to a TON of new music, sleep.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?  Touring internationally, owning a record label, playing stadium crowds/festivals.

What are your thoughts on FIT Radio?  It’s the best, most user-friendly way to stream mixes on the app store.  Hands down.

Getting To Know Your Favorite FIT Radio DJs: DJ Ri

By superadmin,

FIT Radio flew DJ Ri (pronounced rye) and Craig Smoove to Atlanta back in December to spin at one of the Top 3 Nightclubs in the country, Opera Nightclub. A little bit during and after their set, FIT Radio’s Music Director, Chris Rimby, had a chance to hang out with them and said they were pretty cool dudes… we couldn’t agree more! With so much going on like iClub blowing up and a never ending schedule of events to spin, DJ Ri doesn’t let it all get to his head. He is your typical California boy who enjoys kickin’ it at the pier or surfing some waves. And after the interview we found he’s got a bit of an adventurous side to him as well! Read on to discover more about one of our favorite FIT Radio DJs, DJ Ri… More

Getting to know your favorite FIT Radio DJs…

FIT Radio flew DJ HOHME down to Atlanta back in July to spin at one of the Top 3 Nightclubs in the Country, Opera Nightclub. Before his set,  we took him out to dinner for a little pre-gaming. During dinner and while he was down here, we all got to know him a bit. We were quickly blown away by how humble and courteous he was… must be those North Western roots! During his set, the FIT Radio Team and I partied in an Opera Box; We had a blast!
