Why Fitness is Beneficial for Cancer Patients

Exercise is not the golden key in seeking a cure for cancer; however, it is the foundation on which any fight against the disease must be staged.

People always describe the fight against cancer in very combative tones and
metaphors. You don’t just beat cancer, you “kick its ass,” you don’t just deal
with cancer, you “battle” it. Regular exercise is like Rocky getting up earlier than
everybody else to drink an all-protein breakfast and fit in an hour run so that he
can eventually go up against Apollo Creed. If you’re up for a fight with cancer,
then you’re in for the most important fight of your life, and you’d better be fit
enough to go the distance. More

The Color Run: "Great Success! Very Nice!"

FIT Radio was invited to provide music for the Finish Line at The Color Run this past weekend at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. Since we all talked about how exciting it looked months before while we sat in the office, we were all thrilled to receive the opportunity to partner up with such a unique race. We brought out a team of Promo Girls with FIT Radio stencils and neon orange paint; as the girls ran around tagging people, they also got in on the action (see Abby, a FIT Radio promo girl, covered in paint to the left).

 

The Color Run was something none of us have ever seen before! It honestly was the Happiest 5K you could ever run! There were people playing around with colored powder everywhere, throwing it in the air, as they danced with their friends. The energy of the crowd was incredible! We may be a little biased, but we believe that it had something to do with our FIT Radio DJ Rimby who was providing non-stop, high-energy music throughout the entire event. All-in-all, it was a great day, and the most fun we have ever had promoting FIT Radio. Kudos to The Color Run for such a great idea!

Hot Topic: Bikram Yoga

So, I know this isn’t really new or anything to most people or “yogis” but I have just recently been very interested in Yoga and the benefits it provides in strength and flexibility and the overall health advantages in general. I am not experienced at all and when I do practice yoga I realize I am not nearly as strong or balanced as I thought, a wobbly mess is more like it. I love the challenge though, so naturally I want to push myself to the limit. A girlfriend of mine invited me to join her for her next hot yoga class and I couldn’t be more excited! I think it will definitely be interesting and an awesome learning experience. Reading up on the studios in my neighborhood so once I am able to find time in my hectic schedule, I will be ready to make an appointment! Stay tuned for a follow-up post about my Bikram Yoga experience. Ps. If anybody has any tips or experiences they’d like to share feel free! I am going to need all the help I can get!

Ultra Music Festival: Check!

The experiment is complete! The newbie has returned with all the details from Ultra Music Festival. With the love of electronic dance music growing in America recently, Ultra was the number one stop for all DJ lovers. Over 50,000 people were in attendance this year making moving around the seven stages very challenging. Upon arrival to the entrance the lines were so long I thought we would have to enjoy the concert from the other side of the fence. Once my crew and I were inside, we were a bit overwhelmed by the size of the park and stages. I first decided to go see Benny Benassi on the main stage, which was packed with people as far as the eye can see. It is really an awe inspiring moment when you see 25,000 people all jamming out to Benny Benassi like it’s a heavy metal show. After Benny, we spent our time walking around taking in little snippets of everybody’s sets until it was late and the fireworks began. By the end of day one I had a weird mix of feelings: confusion, happiness, excitement, and exhaustion.

Day two brought about a new round of adventures that I was more than willing to indulge and some very serious Miami heat. *Remember to always stay hydrated at Ultra because I witnessed one too many people go down from exhaustion and dehydration. The best set of day two would have to have been Avicii because of the very controversial Madonna appearance. Queen Madge came onto stage to declare her love for electronic music, promote her new album,  and claim that she has been coming to Ultra ”in spirit” for the past twelve years. To top off the mind-blowing experience, she proceeded to ask the crowd if anyone has seen molly. Molly is the street name for the drug MDMA, which is very similar to Madonna’s new album title MDNA. For the most part, day two was mainly dedicated to dubstep. All the heavy bass got my body moving and gave me a 7 hour cardio session!

Day three was the most uneventful as I could only stay for three hours because I was extremely late and overslept from the night before. However, I did manage to fit in a set by SBTRKT and Bassnectar. In the end, I must say that Ultra is an amazing experience that any EDM lover should try it out at least once. Plus, all my dancing in those three days made me lose seven pounds so add awesome workout to the description as well!

Fad Diets: What do you think?

As summer has unexpectedly approached Atlanta (yes, I said summer; It is almost 90 degrees outside!), there has been a lot of talk about Fad Diets in the grocery stores, nightclubs, streets of Atlanta, and even inside the FIT Radio office. I, for one, have never been a fan of fads, especially when it comes to my eating habits. However, for some reason, they are always such a hot topic of conversation. I’ve been planning on taking my friend Desiree’s Dance/Group Exercise class this week, and while I was looking for the link I found her blog. She has some amazing tips on there, and the one post that really caught my eye was called Fad About You.  It’s all about the different types of Fad Diets and her educated opinion on all of them. I would suggest checking it out before buying into one of these “Fads” in an effort to quickly slim down for the sudden (very welcomed) heat flash.

Workout Gear to Get You in Gear

I don’t know about everyone else, but I love the way 80’s fashion has been revived, especially in the Nike Women’s clothing department on their website. Not only have they continued using motivational phrases such as “Pretty fast…isn’t good enough” and “Fuel This” on their t’s, but the bright colors that came with the 80’s are back as well and who doesn’t love bright and exciting colors? I will say this, I never thought I’d dig splatter paint but Nike is doing a “pretty good” job of making it look current and hip.

Kickball: Not Just For Elementary Schoolers

My friend Meghan and I were invited to fill in on a kickball team yesterday. I was somewhat reluctant since I haven’t played kickball since elementary school, but I figured what the hell, it’ll be fun to run around outside for a bit. When we got there, we realized everyone was a bit more serious about kickball than we expected. It was a little intimidating, but we decided to step up to the challenge. We practiced kicking the ball a little before the game (which actually made us even more nervous as it revealed to be more involved than we remembered). Once the game started, we were both determined not to let the team down, so we did our best. We actually had a lot of fun doing it and got a great workout chasing the ball around! We both ended up getting on base and playing well on the field. All in all, it was a lot of fun (and I have the bruises to prove it). Joining an adult league is a great outlet for exercise and meeting new people. I think I may join one this summer. After the game, we all went to Mellow Mushroom as I proceeded to tell everyone about FIT Radio and get them to download the app. 🙂
