Apple's New 'EarPods' A Better Choice For Gym Goers

By superadmin,

If you are one of the select few who have dropped a couple Benjamins on the new iPhone 5 then you know all about the new ‘EarPods’. As for the rest of us, don’t worry, a new pair (sans iPhone) is available for the fair price of $29. The newly designed EarPods boast a more natural fit in the user’s ear (whereas before you probably felt you might be damaging your ears you were cramming in so tightly…I did!). Another change to the design includes a larger remote.

The larger remote (which is FIT Radio compatible just like the old one) will allow the user to change the volume and pause whatever mix they are enjoying much easier than before. So, if you’re looking to upgrade your ear buds, check these out. Anything that makes your workout with FIT easier and more enjoyable is always okay with us 🙂

So, living in the city of Atlanta is awesome, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in GA, but lately the spike in gas prices within city limits is getting  a little ridiculous.

BIO
I am a WBFF Professional Athlete, a member of team Total Body Advantage, and a member of the NY DIVAS with five years of fitness competitions behind me. I was born in Costa Rica, raised in New Jersey and achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science Studies with a double minor in Biology and Pscyology at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. I have a grand passion for fitness and everything it encompasses. As it is ever changing, I am constantly doing my research to keep myself up to date. I love to learn, share tips, and meet those who also love this lifestyle.

From a young age, I’ve been heavily involved in sports. There were rarely seasons in which I was not active on an athletic team. I played soccer, lacrosse, basketball, ran track and cross country, and danced ballet and hip hop. While in college, I really missed being a part of a team and playing a sport. It was then, in my senior year of college that I discovered the world of competitive fitness-and what a world it is! It is a world filled with men and women from all paths of life seeking to improve their lives through fitness-in a nutshell. Competing has taught me a lot about myself, my strengths and my weaknesses. Like most sports, it not only tests you physically, but emotionally, and mentally as well. I train hard year round, lift heavy, and am constantly incorporating new techniques into my workouts. I also eat clean, do my research to ensure my training approach is safe, healthy and effective, and meet with my teammates on a regular basis.

My love for fitness goes hand in hand with my love for music. Up until recently I had an iPod (my old faithful) that I bought over 10 years ago! I used to spend countless hours selecting the perfect workout playlist to get me through my intense training sessions. Music just moves me! It wakes me up on sleepy days, gets me through rough workouts, and most importantly AMPS my workouts. I wake up to it, workout to it, and listen to it every chance I get. The day I discovered FIT Radio was the day I stopped sitting hours by the computer composing the perfect playlist as all their playlists are exactly what I am looking for.

My most recent achievement was winning the title Ms. Fitness Atlantic Bikini Overall Champion at the last show I competed in which earned me my WBFF Pro card. In just a couple of weeks I will be competing against professional athletes from all of over the world at the WBFF World Championship in Toronto, Canada which will aire live on
Pay-Per-View August 24th and 25th. Wish me luck! 🙂

Red Bull Soapbox Recap: Round Dos

By superadmin,

If the last post didn’t quench your thirst for knowledge of the goings on at the Red Bull Soapbox Race, then have a looksie at a little video we threw together!

Red Bull Soapbox Race

By superadmin,

This past Saturday was a milestone for the FIT Radio team to say the least. Not only was it our first time attending the Red Bull Soapbox Race but also our first time competing.

vs.

Clearly from day one we knew that we were a bunch of amateur misfits in a sea of professional enthusiasts but we didn’t let that slow us down. The amount of dedication and time and effort that these teams sacrificed is nothing short of incredible and we knew it was going to take some serious man power to get us up to speed with the R.B.S.B. (Red Bull Soapbox) veterans. With only two more days before the race, hurdle after hurdle, deadline crunch after deadline crunch we found ourselves among the chosen teams to be featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution!

There is just something about being featured in your hometown’s news paper that fills you with a certain kind of pride (insert blissful moment of silence with weird cheesy smile included.) Anyway back to reality, when Friday came (day before the race) there was no looking back especially since Lexi and I had to push Rusty from Opera Nightclub to Piedmont Park and we literally couldn’t look back because we had to make sure we didn’t push the President of FIT Radio into on coming traffic . No worries, we found time for a photo opp!

After what seemed like an hour we made it to our destination and dropped off our “little” baby into the trusty hands of the Red Bull officials. I could tell it was going to be hard getting any sleep that night. Picture yourself waking up in a panic thinking you’re an hour late for a huge meeting every hour on the hour…yeah not the best nights sleep I’d ever had. Anyway, we got to our pit and this is what one of our competitors looked like:

Yeah, giant Christian Louboutin pumps. Our craft might have not had as much paper mache detail as the others but our sound system made up for it

Around 11:45 am the teams began to get in line to make their way down the course (which didn’t seem as intimidating as we thought unfortunately). While Rusty and the rest of the skit members waited anxiously in line, Lexi and I tried to find a good post to see all the action. Easier said than done. The park was packed and not only was it hot and muggy outside but the amount of people there made me have flashbacks of Music Midtown and getting stuck to sweaty people who couldn’t navigate a crowd if their life depended on it! Sorry, clearly I’m still a little bent out of shape about it. No worries though,we found an awesome spot and were able to see the skit and watch it all on the big screen behind the stage. If my memory serves me correctly the judges gave us some pretty solid scores. We received a 10, 9, 8, 10, 9, 10, 8. But there is a very good chance I could be wrong.

After our car’s run down the hill, we frantically fought our  way through the crowd to meet up with everyone. In case you aren’t aware of the rules, there is absolutely no consumption of alcohol before the race by any of the team members, so you can imagine our excitement when we reached Park Tavern.

After we had a few, okay many celebratory cocktails somebody remembered that we had to retrieve the FIT Radio Soapbox car and take it home, aka all the way back to Rusty’s place near Crescent Avenue (barf). Luckily for me, I couldn’t help push because somebody had to document everything via camera phone!

How To Make: Sesame-Kale Crisps!

By superadmin,

Hey gang! We are back with another health food how-to! Incase this is your first visit I’ll get you up to speed… The past few weeks we wanted to feature a recurring post that we thought would be useful, and I personally find myself looking at a lot of healthy recipes with ingredients I havent even heard of which make them seem difficult and intimidating. Not the case at all! We scour the “net” for the easiest recipes featuring new and fun healthy ingredients so they don’t seem as scary and hopefully entice you all to try and make them yourself! This week, we are posting about Kale Chips or more specifically, Sesame-Kale Crisps (a little fancy twist) from the Whole Living website. Hope you enjoy!

Fitness Magazine, Self Magazine & Tone It Up: Done in a New York Minute!

By superadmin,

What we accomplished in 41 hours:

The Fitness Magazine Blogger Meet and Tweet

This past Tuesday, Lexi and I flew out to New York for Fitness Magazine’s first Blogger Meet and Tweet event. We were super excited because we knew that most of the FitFluential team members were going to be there and we were finally going to be able to meet all of the “tweeps” we had been communicating with for the past several months. The event was jam packed with activities and many influential fitness speakers. We were even able to hear a few words from US Olympic Soccer star Mia Hamm! The event started with gathering our name tags and getting our “passports.” The event had a ton of tables chuck full of fitness and well-being related products. Brands such as Schick, Birkenstock, Reebok, and CamelBak to name a few. So, we had our passports and in order to earn the mack-daddy of all goody bags, we had to visit all of the tables and get a stamp/star sticker to prove that we had been there, just like an actual passport! After getting around to most of the tables, we sat down to hear a few keynote speakers from Fitness Magazine and well-being and nutritional experts like Joe Dowdell, Mia Hamm, and A.J. Jacobs. We had a little break for lunch…

It was nutritious and delicious! As the meet and tweet came to a close had completed filling out our passports and were pumped to receive our goodie bag! That was chock full of products we had been hearing and learning about all day!

SO much cool stuff, we’re very excited to start reading “DropDead Healthy” by A.J. Jacobs, he was hilarious so we’re sure his book will be just as entertaining! Following the meet and tweet, we got wind that the Tone It Up girls were going to making an appearance at the Oakley store in Times Square! I checked out their latest twitter post and it said that the first 50 people to be at the store after 5 were getting a goodie bag so we booked it to the Oakley store and we were actually numbers 48 and 49, which means, we got another goodie bag!

Complete with the Beach Babe workout DVD, a copy of this month’s Self Magazine, a $10 Oakley gift card and some other cool treats. To top it all off, I got to meet the ladies behind the Tone It Up brand, Karena and Katrina!

Made my day to say the least! After we left the Oakley store, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up and get ready to go out to dinner with some of the FitFluential girls we had met during the meet and tweet. It was so nice to finally be able to match a face to a twitter handle. I felt like I already knew them all!

So in a nutshell, we schmoozed with Jill Hanner, Nicole Culver, Christy Dean, and Kelly Olexa. We got the chance to hear tips and tricks from professionals all across the Fitness magazine spectrum, enjoyed a delicious lunch, got a TON of gifts, samples, and reading material, scored a copy of the Beach Babe DVD, an Oakley gift card, the latest copy of Self Magazine, not to mention two awesome bags that all the “schwag” came in, and I got to meet the duo that has been inspiring me for the past 4 months. We topped it all off with a couple margaritas and tacos with old/new friends later on in the evening. It was quite a busy day but so unbelievably worth it! Needless to say, we can’t wait to attend the next Fitness Magazine Blogger Meet & Tweet.
