The Year of the Booty. It’s everywhere. It’s all over social media. It’s all everyone is talking about. But guess what? The 30 Day Booty Blaster workout won’t work. I know I know, I was super bummed too after I gave it my all (really before I understood fitness.) But since those days I have learned a lot and I’m excited to share it all with YOU!
I spent 30 whole days doing the squats challenge. Day 1- 25 squats, Day 2- 35 squats,.., Day 19- 50 squats,… and so on. Yeah after 30 days my legs were stronger, my booty was firmer, but I did NOT have a backside like the girl in the photo. And what’s even more of a bummer is that after those 30 days…my behind went right back to where it started. FYI- This little story I’m telling you was back when I didn’t quite understand fitness and I just wanted what I wanted when I wanted it!
But I followed the challenge, where’s my peach emoji booty?
Would you like the good news or the bad news first? I’ll give you the bad news first so that we can have the sour than the sweet…just like a box of sour patch kids. The bad news is in these 30 day workouts (or whatever the ridiculously short amount of time is) you’re not going to get that body part to look like the photo. HOWEVER, you can one day! And here’s how you do it:
Rome wasn’t built in a day nor was that booty
I understand that doing something for 30 days nonstop seems like a big chunk of time, but in reality, it’s not. 30 days is only about 8% of a year; that means if you only do the challenge you’re only working on yourself 8% of the time! That’s nothing. Do you think the people who built Rome were like “Hey, let’s give this 8% of our time and see what happens”? No! They worked day in and day out to create a marvelous city. I’m not saying you need to drop all other priorities in your life and just work on it 24/7, but I am saying those 30 days aren’t enough. Give a little of bit of each day to work on your fitness. Maybe it’s a yoga class, maybe it’s a home workout, or maybe it’s a 30-minute Fit Radio workout with yours truly…whatever it is just keeping working at it.
Don’t just Squat
I wish it was as easy as a handful of squats every day. I do, I really do. But there’s so much more that goes into shaping your body or feeling healthier/stronger than a squat here and a squat there. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself in every way. That means eating food that fuels your body…not fries, even though they are the most delicious thing on Earth. Don’t forget to hydrate with water, water and some more water. And also sleep is so important! Setting aside the proper amount of time of sleep will allow your body and mind to recover and get ready for the day to come. Don’t just focus on the squats, that’s only part of the puzzle.
Patience is a Virtue
This is where I used to really struggle. I had no problem putting in the work. I exercised, I ate well, I drank plenty of water and was well rested, but I still couldn’t see a drastic change. Almost every day I would jump on the scale or take measurements. I would start to lose motivation because I wasn’t seeing results day by day. But once I took a step back and saw the changes that were happening month by month or even week by week I was ecstatic! I no longer compared day by day, instead, I trusted the journey. Remember it’s a process and that takes time. So be patient with yourself, you’re doing your best.
So Instagram and Workout Challenges are Useless?
Now I didn’t say that, but what I am saying is that sometimes these challenges and photos can give us the wrong impression. How can anyone succeed with unrealistic expectations? They can’t. So as you’re liking pictures on Instagram or pinning items on Pinterest, remember that people weren’t born like that. They started from square one too. So allow the pictures to motivate you, allow them to inspire you, but don’t allow them to define your progress. Everyone moves at a different speed and everyone’s body is different.
Moral of the story:
Don’t get discouraged if you don’t have your desired body in 30 days. Remember that fitness is a journey, not a destination. So enjoy the ride and love yourself because you’re BEAUTIFUL.
